Monochromatic

January 17, 2015

With every day and vitalizing yoga session I feel more confident that doing the teacher training in 2016 is actually something I can do. When I started back up with my daily yoga routines this January I hadn't practiced regularly in some time. I felt so sure three weeks earlier when I made the decision to teach, however, the first sessions were brutal. But I am finally feeling accepting of the challenge and ready to push myself in terms of the challenge and routine and incorporating yoga fundamentals into my daily life.

The mat has become my safe space. I feel a flow of relief and happiness go through me when my head touches the mat and I take that long breath out. It is the only place and time in my life when I manage to block out the dread of time and loosen my grip on control. I feel so thankful to have discovered yoga and the wonderful community of yogis.

On another note, I got the three lovelies monochrome beauties yesterday. They're from House Doctor and simply amazing. The largest one is for my iPad, the medium to organize my purse and the smallest for my earplugs  or cards. I love them all, but they look particularly ravishing together, don't you think?

a week of little yoga wonders

January 9, 2015

I've had good progress with my practice this week, although I must say it's hard to stay patient. To let my body work into the postures on it's own time and not over work or stretch my muscles. This month I'm doing two yoga challenges on instagram (see which in this post or by following my instagram here). They are both great for someone who is new to the practice, or are getting back into it. Now that I've done an entire week I thought I would revisit the yogasanas each week to try and track my progress. I would love to hear about yours too! The more we share, the more we learn!

The Year

December 25, 2014

I just realized that extent to which I will be traveling in 2015 might seem a little much. At the moment these are the trips I've got planned and I've not actually been trying to "travel". This is not a case of wanderlust (a word I don't actually like that much) or a year off, this is my life. It's how it's always been and how it will always be. I've been moving around since I was 3 and I've never felt comfortable in one place too long. I see people from my childhood living and settling in the same town they were born and I just don't understand. It doesn't seem natural to me.

  1. USA trip to visit friends (3 weeks)
  2. Qatar to visit mum and dad who lives there (2 weeks)
  3. Budapest to visit baby brother (1 week)
  4. Island Hopping in Greece with my friend Maria (2 weeks at least)
  5. Sailing in Lofoten with boyfriend and co (2 months)
  6. Moving to the Canary Islands (or Greece)
  7. Yoga teacher training in India (1,5 month)

I'm eager for 2015 to start. I can't wait for a new year and a new attempt at making every minute count. I'm sitting here writing this, feeling so much more optimistic than I thought I would. It'll be a busy year, just like every other year of my life (chronic multi-tasked), but it's my time. My time to start moulding my life, to make my living and to find my peace. I have this need to create "home". The pictures are from my trip to Qatar this summer.

Discovery: Into Mind

December 4, 2014

Just need to tell you quickly about my latest find. Since completing my bachelor and being deported from the US I've been feeling a little stuck in limbo. I've been looking for directions trying to figure out who I am, who I'd like to be, what I'd like to do and where I'd like to live. I'm really feeling the need to settle down, find my own pace, develop good routines and habits and actually have a social life. I want to make new friends and surround myself with them always, to find a job I love, but that challenges me and allows me to build a career and to have the extra energy to live a healthy and active lifestyle in a harmonious way.

The other day I came across this amazing website through Norwegian fashion designer and blogger Maria Van Nguyen. In many ways its a self-help site (with particular focus on developing the perfect wardrobe), but one based on the ideas of minimalism. Through my years of studying design privately and in university I've gone back and forth about my thoughts about minimalism and wether I am a minimalist. Still I'm not sure where I stand in terms of design, but I've come to realize that my mind functions much more clearly and efficiently under minimalistic conditions. I have to tidy, organize and clean my desk before I can even sit down to do any work, I literally feel depressed when my apartment is messy and I can only do yoga or go to the gym if I know there's nothing else I'm should be doing. Lately, for instance, I have had serious trouble prioritizing exercise because I've been redecorating the apartment, and any DIY'ers will tell you, renovating means total commitment.

Anyways! Back to site. I read through most of the contents this morning and was so inspired I immediately drove all of my crap to the recycling center, my brother's stuff to my grandparents' place, and some old clothes to a charity shop. And it felt amazeballs. So check it out here; Into Mind!
